What Is Naloxone?
Naloxone (brand name Narcan) is a safe, fast-acting medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. It is available without a prescription in North Carolina and can be administered by anyone — you do not need medical training to use it.

How to Get Free Naloxone
Illuminate NC distributes free naloxone through our News of Hope program. You can request naloxone through our contact form, at a community event, or through one of our distribution box locations.

We have placed naloxone distribution boxes at community locations throughout Wake County. These boxes are stocked with free naloxone and are accessible to anyone at any time.

Free Overdose Response Training
We also offer free naloxone training for individuals, organizations, and community groups. Training covers how to recognize an overdose, how to administer naloxone, and what to do while waiting for emergency services.
